Welcome to Tutoring by Deb!
Tutoring by Deb is an exciting choice for students who are seeking a tutor! Highly focused on individualized instruction and motivating students through the use of hands-on activities, Deb goes above the ho-hum-read-and-do-handouts type of teaching to make learning interesting and exciting. Believing in parent-teacher teamwork, Deb not only welcomes, but encourages parents to communicate with her. Parents are also invited to become involved by doing suggested activities with their child at home.More about Tutoring by Deb:
Subjects Tutored: Grades 1 to 8 Reading, Math, and Science
All grades fractions and decimals
Pre-K and K pre-reading and pre-math skills
Teaching Methods Used: Individualized lessons, hands-on activities, reinforcement through activities that the student can do at home
Online Classroom: We meet in our own WiziQ classroom. Previews of the classroom are available.
Sessions: Length is 1 hour. Almost always, sessions are one-on-one.
Cost: Each session is $20.00, with the first two sessions free. In the first session, students learn how the classroom works and get to know the tutor. Tutoring may begin. The second session is the first full tutoring session. After the second session, a decision about continuing with paid sessions will need to be made.
Why is the cost so low? While many online tutors charge much higher rates, Deb wants to make tutoring available for all students, including those whose parents might be struggling financially.
About Deb's Qualifications:
Deb is a fully qualified tutor. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education in 1985 and was a licensed teacher in Indiana. She's been a substitute teacher for grades K to 12, working almost every school day, and many teachers requested Deb to fill-in when they needed to be away for a day or several weeks. Substitute teaching led to her being hired as an At-Risk Coordinator for grades K-6. Working with students individually or in small groups, she developed activities to boost students' confidence while providing extra academic help for subjects they were having difficulties in. She also taught fun lessons to entire classes for the purpose of boosting confidence. After a few years outside of education, she was a Lead Teacher at Head Start, where she learned to use the hands-on learning approach to teaching. Most recently, she was an online teacher for a leading company. Convinced that she could offer students a more meaningful learning experience, she decided to start Tutoring by Deb!
